The work is accompanied in print by pictures taken by The Yorkshire Post’s skilled photographers.<br/><br/>Those featured in the series include a jeweller, a potter, a bicycle maker and a fashion designer.<br/><br/>The collaboration has been almost a year in the making after Nova pitched the idea to Yorkshire Post editor James Mitchinson.<br/><br/>Matt Stephenson, director of Nova, said: “With two newspaper-trained journalists on the team, we loved bringing together our journalistic and editorial skills with everything we know about digital film-making.<br/><br/><br/>“The makers in the films we’ve produced really care about craft and tradition - and we’re very proud to be associated with them - their values reflect our own. There’s so much disposable product and content out there, it’s great to make films that are anything but disposable - we wanted to emphasise enduring quality, and to do that for the Yorkshire Post, a publication that is so embedded in the cultural life of our region.”<br/><br/>Catherine Scott, Yorkshire Post Magazine editor, said: “This has been an inspiring project to work on and we have been blown away by the quality of Nova’s work. ACP Avinash Verma (Manoj Bajpayee) heads the Special Crime Unit. He's joined by Sanjana Bhatia (Prachi Desai), Amit Chauhan (Sahil Vaid), Raj Gupta (Vaquar Shaikh) and Javed (Nimesh Balaji Shinde). After the events of the last film, the unit has expanded though there's pressure on Commissioner Mayank Sharma (Manuj Bhaskar) to shut it down. One night, a deadly shootout takes place at Night Owl Bar where several people are killed. Avinash is asked to head the cast as the PA of a minister also dies in the shootout. Avinash and his team begin the investigation assuming that the shootout took place to eliminate the PA. But they soon realize that a girl present at the bar, Azma Khan (Surbhi Rohra), is the reason why the killings happened. She was present at the bar with her friend Irrfan and both were eliminated. As they investigate, the unit realizes that Azma was an escort. Meanwhile, the dead body of a girl named Tara Sachdev is found in Jaipur. Avinash realizes that there's a connection between the two murders. But it's not easy to zero in on a suspect as there are too many players involved, all with their own motives. What happens next forms the rest of the film.<br/><br/>Aban Bharucha Deohans' story is intriguing. Aban Bharucha Deohans' screenplay is captivating in places. In no time, one gets sucked into the goings-on. The writing is also peppered with a lot of unexpected developments. However, it gets too stretched in the middle. Aban Bharucha Deohans' dialogues have an impact but a few one-liners seem forced.<br/><br/>Aban Bharucha Deohans' direction is uncomplicated, which is very important since a lot happens in the film and there are too many suspects. As it happens in most whodunits, the director makes viewers guess who must be behind the killings and the motive for doing so. There’s also a human trafficking angle that adds a lot to the plot. In fact, the Jaipur episode keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The suspense is unpredictable.<br/><br/>On the flipside, the film is 2 hours and 22 minutes long. It drags at some places. Though the makers try their best to keep the narrative simple, a few developments are confusing. The flashback of the killing at the bar is very unconvincing. How exactly the killer killed so many without a hindrance is not easy to digest. Also, the motive behind it is weak. A few developments are not depicted visually and are given a raw deal. It hampers the impact to some extent.")

The first is of Lingesan (Vikram) obsessing over supermodel Diya (Amy Jackson), who smiles down at him from billboards and through the television and in newspapers. His fascination for her results in some bizarre manifestations like the song sequence where his handset and motorcycle (and even a fish in a supermarket) take Diya’s form.<br/><br/>When he is not being just a tad bit leery, Lingesan trains at Arnold Gym (very subtle nod to his idol) to prepare for the Mr. Tamil competition. When a bulky rival tries to scare him away, Lingesan challenges him to beat him at his game and not ask him to back away like a woman. (Bombast dialogue = 1. Notions of gender = 0). The competition plays with the standard masala humourthroughsongs like ‘Made in India’ and ‘Marhaba’to jolt you out of the staleness-induced stupor.<br/><br/><br/>There is a fight scene after that with a few muscled competitors and the hero, because winning graciously is a lost art on them. After punches and bodies fly thick through the air, there is a moment when the men regroup on the hero to jiggle their moobs at him. That is only beginning of the cringe-worthy scenes that are to follow.<br/>Meanwhile, Diya is constantly badgered by her co-model John (Upen Patel) for a date. She does not comply and he uses his clout to remove her from key assignments. Act 2 has Diya grooming Lingesan into Lee, a more enticing professional counterpart. Here, the makers throw in a transgender makeup artist (Ojas M Rajani), the stereotyping making the most hardened viewer recoil. Act 3 features a gruesome sabotage of the hero’s appearance, which morphs into a revenge drama. Lingesan, seething, disfigured and vengeful, will give it as good as he has gotten.<br/><br/><br/>I may not have an original concept, but a less tiresome execution could have worked immensely in its favour. The beginning may seem made with the quintessential flair of a standard potboiler, but the sequences shot in China are truly breathtaking. This happens in Act 2,when the proceedings are still light and Diya-Lee team up for a perfume advertisement. A fight scene shot on the rooftops, with murderous cyclists, is the only one that stands out in the entire film.<br/>Despite being a love story, the romance angle is uninspired. Diya does not seem drawn to Lingesan, except for his machismo.<br/><br/><br/>The dramatic scenes in the latter half of the film are heavy-handed and replete with ham moments that could give a butcher a complex. Lavishly shot song sequences to dot the narrative, end up stretching the film’s running time and the audience’s patience. Despite some stunning visuals, the songs offer little by way of melody.<br/><br/>Even Santhanam, as Lingesan’s friend, can do little to lighten up the dull story.
