From the surface to the deepest depths, the ocean is home to a diverse array of life forms and ecosystems that are still largely unexplored and undiscovered.

The ocean is teeming with life, from tiny plankton to massive whales. It is estimated that there are over one million species of plants and animals living in the ocean, with many more yet to be discovered. The ocean is also home to some of the most unique and bizarre creatures on Earth, such as the anglerfish, which uses a bioluminescent lure to attract prey, or the vampire squid, which can turn itself inside out to escape predators.

The ocean also plays a crucial role in regulating the Earth's climate and weather patterns. The ocean absorbs heat from the sun and helps to distribute it around the globe, creating currents that affect everything from temperature to precipitation. The ocean also acts as a carbon sink, absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Despite its importance, the ocean is facing numerous threats from human activities. Pollution, overfishing, and climate change are all taking a toll on ocean ecosystems, leading to declines in biodiversity and the destruction of habitats. It is estimated that over 80% of the ocean's coral reefs have been destroyed or are at risk of being lost, and many species of fish are being pushed to the brink of extinction.

However, there is hope for the world of the sea. Conservation efforts are underway around the globe to protect and restore ocean ecosystems, from establishing marine protected areas to reducing plastic pollution. Scientists are also working to better understand the ocean and its inhabitants, using advanced technologies such as underwater drones and satellite imaging to explore the depths of the sea.

The world of the sea is a fascinating and awe-inspiring place, full of wonder and mystery. As we continue to learn more about the ocean and its importance to the planet, it is crucial that we work together to protect and preserve this precious resource for future generations. Only by taking action now can we ensure that the world of the sea remains a vibrant and thriving ecosystem for years to come.
#imagecollection27
@imagecollection27
image collection 27,
meharzari13,

This breathtaking tableau is captured by a solitary space probe, adrift amidst the vast expanse of outer space. The juxtaposition of the nine dragons and the cryptic bronze coffin ignites speculation: have we ventured into the annals of ancient history, or have we transcended the very boundaries of the universe? Within this realm, countless souls set forth to carve their own paths, seeking The Dao, the underlying principle that governs all. Their fervor is akin to tempestuous waves that forever churn. The fires of aspiration burn within them like volcanoes poised to erupt. #TropicalLeatherleaf
#Slugs
#SlugsofPakistan
#WildlifeofPakistan
#AhmadNetix

Tropical Leatherleaf Slug (Laevicaulis alte) | Description and Distribution | Invertebrates [URDU]

Slug, or land slug, is a common name for any apparently shell-less terrestrial gastropod mollusc.
The word slug is used for any gastropod mollusc that has no shell, a much-reduced shell, or only a small internal shell.
Slugs’ bodies are made up mostly of water and, without a full-sized shell.
Their soft tissues are prone to desiccation.
They must generate protective mucus to survive.
Many species are most active just after a rain because of the moist ground or during night time.
In drier conditions, they hide in damp places such as under tree bark, fallen logs, rocks and manmade structures.
Slugs produce two types of mucus: one is thin and watery, and the other thick and sticky.
Both kinds of mucus are hygroscopic.
The thin mucus spreads from the foot's centre to its edges, whereas the thick mucus spreads from front to back.
Slugs also produce thick mucus that coats the whole body of the animal.
The mucus secreted by the foot contains fibres that help prevent the slug from slipping down vertical surfaces.
This is a tropical land slug, called tropical leatherleaf or Laevicaulis alte.
Tropical leatherleaf is a round, dark-coloured slug with no shell.
Its length is 7 to 8 centimetres or 2.8 to 3.1 inches.
This slug has a unique, very narrow foot; juvenile specimens have a foot 1 millimetre in width, and adult specimens have a foot 4 to 5 millimetres wide.
The tentacles are small, 2 to 3 millimetres long.
The main predator of this slug is a frog, the Indian bullfrog.
The species is probably indigenous to Africa, both western Africa and eastern Africa, particularly Tanzania.
It has been introduced and has become an invasive species in Southern Asia, Pratas Island, Taiwan, United States (Hawaii), Islands in the Indian Ocean, Australia and Samoa.
Tropical leatherleaf lives in dry areas, mostly at lower altitudes.
The slug hatches from eggs.
The species has several adaptations for living in dry conditions: a rounded shape with as small as possible surface area, and a narrow foot to reduce evaporation.
Juvenile specimens search for food always at night, and stay buried in the soil during the day.
Larger specimens are active during the day sometimes.
The slug can grow up from 0.5 to 4 centimetres in length in 7 months.

#BengalMonitor
#Reptiles
#WildlifeofPakistan
#AhmadNetix

Today we will talk about a lizard, the Bengal Monitor that is also called the Common Indian Monitor.
This monitor lizard distributed widely in the Indian Subcontinent, as well as parts of Southeast Asia and West Asia.
This large lizard is mainly a terrestrial animal.
Its length ranges from about 61 to 175 centimeters or 24 to 69 inches from the tip of the snout to the end of the tail.
Young monitors may be arboreal but adults mainly hunt on the ground, preying mainly on arthropods but also taking small terrestrial vertebrates, ground birds, eggs and fish.
The species is found in river valleys in eastern Iran, Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Burma.
They are often found in agricultural areas.
Bengal monitors are solitary and found on the ground, although the young are often seen on trees.
Bengal monitors shelter in burrows they dig or crevices in rocks and buildings.
Bengal monitors are diurnal like other monitors, becoming active around 6 AM and bask in the morning sun.
During winter, they may take shelter and go through a period of reduced metabolic activity.
They are not territorial and may change their range seasonally in response to food availability.
They are usually shy and avoid humans.
They have keen eyesight and can detect human movement nearly 250 m away.
When caught, a few individuals may bite, but rarely do so.
Although they are found on agricultural land, but they prefer forests with large trees.
Captives have been known to live for nearly 22 years.
Predators of adults include pythons, mammalian predators and birds.
The main breeding season is June to September, but males begin to show combat behaviour by April.
Females dig a nest hole in level ground or a vertical bank and lay the eggs inside, filling it up and using their snouts to compact the soil.
They sometimes make use of a termite mound to nest.
A single clutch of about 20 eggs is laid.
The eggs hatch in 168 to nearly as long as 254 days.
About 40 to 80 % of the eggs may hatch.
They are capable of rapid movement on the ground.
Small individuals may climb trees to escape, but larger ones prefer to escape on the ground.
They sometimes stand on the hind legs to get a better view or when males fight other males.
They can also swim well and can stay submerged for at least 17 minutes.
They can use both trees and bushes for shelter.
Bengal monitors tend to remain active the whole day.
Large adults may ascend vertical tree trunks, where they sometimes stalk and capture roosting bats.
The species is a generalist and feeds on a varied diet of invertebrates and vertebrates.
Invertebrate prey mostly consists of beetles and their larvae also maggots, caterpillars, centipedes, scorpions, crabs, crayfish, snails, termites, ants, and earwigs.
Larger individuals in addition to invertebrates also eat a large amount of vertebrate prey, including toads and frogs and their eggs, fish, lizards, snakes, etc.
