As the cosmos orchestrates its grand ballet, one of the most awe-inspiring performances unfolds when the Earth, Moon, and Sun align in perfect harmony. The spectacle of a solar eclipse, where the Moon casts its shadow upon the Earth, mesmerizes observers worldwide. In recent memory, North America has been graced with the privilege of witnessing such celestial marvels, evoking a sense of wonder and reverence for the cosmos.

The anticipation leading up to an eclipse is palpable. Months, sometimes years, before the celestial event, astronomers and enthusiasts meticulously plan their viewing locations, hoping to secure the optimal vantage point. Whether nestled in the rugged mountains of the Pacific Northwest, perched atop skyscrapers in bustling metropolises, or ensconced within the vast expanses of the Great Plains, observers eagerly await the celestial ballet about to unfold.

On the appointed day, as dawn breaks across the continent, excitement mounts. Weather forecasts are scrutinized with fervor, for clear skies are paramount to a successful viewing experience. Stars twinkle into view, and the temperature drops, lending an otherworldly ambiance to the scene.

For those fortunate enough to witness totality, the experience is nothing short of transcendent. Time seems to stand still as the Moon's shadow races across the Earth, enveloping everything in its path. The Blade is a 1995 Hong Kong martial arts action film co-written, produced and directed by Tsui Hark (徐克), starring Vincent Chiu Man-cheuk (赵文卓), Moses Chan Ho (陳豪), Hung Yan-yan (熊欣欣), Song Lei (桑妮), Austin Wai Tin-chi (惠天賜), Chung Bik-ha (鍾碧霞) and Valerie Chow Kar-ling (周嘉玲). This film is notable for its unusual style, which includes dramatic close-ups, employment of colour gels, and frenetic camera use during the fight sequences.

An old master (Austin) runs the Sharp Manufacturer saber factory and he abdicates and appoints his close friend’s orphaned son, Ting On (Vincent), his least popular worker, as his successor. The master’s daughter, Siu Ling (Song), is interested in On and another worker, Iron Head (Moses).

One day while out delivering swords Ting On and Iron Head witness a monk (陳榮宗 Dickens Chan Wing-chung) fighting off a gang of thugs. The thugs later ambush and kill the monk in retaliation. Iron Head yells out the name of the factory, swearing revenge and taunting the thugs. Later that day, Ting On discovers that his father died while saving his master from Fei Lung (熊欣欣 Xiong Xin-xin), an infamous tattooed assassin who is rumored to be able to fly. On takes his father’s broken sword (the titular Dao), Intent on seeking revenge, and he goes off. When Siu Ling goes after him, she is assaulted by a local gang of bandits. Ting On manages to save her, but he loses his right arm in the process and ends up falling off a cliff.

Ting On is found and nursed back to health by Blackie (Chung), an orphaned farm girl. On takes up work in a diner, but feels himself worthless and it is not until their house is burned down that Blackie finds a part of a kung fu manual and gives it on Ting On. He studies the manual, find his late father's sword and develope a swordmanship technique that propels him to become a successful swordsman.

Note: This movie is a remake of 1967's One Armed-Swordsman (played by 王羽 Jimmy Wang Yu) and was not popular in Hong Kong, but it has a very exciting display of sword play and is worth watching.

Dermot Kavanagh, from London, was visiting Kruger National Park, South Africa, on April 11 when he spotted the six dogs enjoying a drink.

Dramatic footage shows a crocodile suddenly spring forward with its jaws gnashing at the nearest wild dog causing them all to jump backwards.

Surprisingly the dogs continued to goad the massive reptile leading the crocodile to launch itself forward for a second time eventually causing the nuisances to leave.

Dermot said: “We have never seen a crocodile launch out of the water like that before, let alone at wild dogs. It was definitely a once in a lifetime sighting.

“Usually wild dog sightings are very quick and they disappear into the bush as quick as you saw them. We were with these guys for around an hour in total.

“My wife and I just looked at each in disbelief, knowing we had seen something special.

“The altercation with the crocodile went on for around five minutes. It started with the wild dogs drinking, the crocodile then approached before launching out of the water.

“We thought the wild dogs would run away but then they started goading the croc, which in turn launched again.

“Eventually the dogs saw sense and carried on with their hunt. We followed them for another 5kilometres or so before they chased some impala into the bush.”

McDonald's reported mixed first-quarter earnings, with profits weighed down by its ongoing reorganization and same-store sales growth missing estimates. Earnings per share were below estimates at $2.70 adjusted, while revenue was slightly above estimates at $6.17 billion. US same-store sales grew 2.5% but missed estimates of 2.6%, as higher prices deterred some lower-income customers. International developmental licensed markets, which include the Middle East, saw a 0.2% same-store sales decline due to ongoing boycotts over the Israel-Palestine conflict.
